I have never owned a Seiko watch before this. No particular reason for this, I just never bought one. But this changed in March 2025.
The story itself how I ended up getting the Seiko is a story of its own, but now I’m just going to concentrate on the watch itself, the Seiko SRPD53K1 from the Seiko 5 Sports SKX series.
The first impression was the weight, much heavier then my G-SHOCK GM-2110D-4A, which is not a surprise as the G-SHOCK weighs in at only 146 grams, which is I would say is about a medium weight watch. The Seiko SRPD53K1 weighs in at 170 grams, not super heavy, but still a heavier feel that I could clearly notice to my G-SHOCK. But still, even if heavier I liked the feel of the Seiko on my wrist.
Setting up the watch was a bit of a learning thing, as it has 2 languages for the day, but relatively easy to setup up and adjust once you get how you choose the language.
The size of the watch is near perfection, as the diameter is 42,5 mm and thickness is 13,4 mm. Slightly smaller diameter but thicker than my G-SHOCK GM-2110D-4A which has a diameter of 44,4 mm and thickness of 11,8 mm. All in all the size and weigh and the feel of the Seiko SRPD53K1 on the wrist is amazing, it feels like a high quality watch that it is, and it also looks really good.
On thing I love about the Seiko is that it’s a fully mechanical automatic watch, which means, no batteries just plain old mechanical movement, which I just love and with it’s clear case back you can just look at the movement working and just be mesmerised of the beauty of the watch ticking.
So far these two watches have become my everyday watches, the Seiko SRPD53K1 and the G-SHOCK GM-2110D-4A, the challenge is always the choice which one to wear.
A full thumbs up for the Seiko SRPD53K1 and all other Seiko 5 Sports SKX series.
