The DW-6900RGB-1 is the digital triple-graph entry in G-SHOCK’s Virtual Rainbow series — a four-model collection released in February 2023 with an e-sports and gaming aesthetic at its core. The premise: glossy black bezels and bands, with dials finished in rainbow vapor deposition that shifts colour under different light. The DW-6900RGB-1 takes that treatment and applies it to the classic three-eye 6900 case, with the multicoloured dial sitting behind a clean black exterior. Quiet from across the room, loud up close — which is exactly the cybertech-meets-gaming dynamic Casio was after when they designed the series.
The 6900 case itself carries one of G-SHOCK’s strongest cultural credentials. In 2000, Tom Cruise wore a DW-6900 as Ethan Hunt in John Woo’s Mission: Impossible 2 — on his wrist throughout the film, from the opening cliff-climbing sequence onward, with close-up shots that turned the model into one of the most identifiable on-screen G-SHOCKs of the modern era. Twenty-five years later, the same case shape is still in the catalogue, still recognisable on sight, and still associated with that role for an entire generation of viewers. The Virtual Rainbow finish is a colourful departure from the original matte black, but the silhouette is identical to the one Cruise wore. (We wrote about the watch’s role in the film in more detail here.)
Under the glossy resin, the engineering is full G-SHOCK. Shock-resistant construction, 200-metre water resistance and a mineral glass crystal protected by raised case lugs that take impacts before the glass does. The triple-graph display shows seconds, day of week and stopwatch/timer information simultaneously across three sub-dials above the main digital readout. Functions include a 1/100-second stopwatch with 24-hour measuring capacity and auto-repeat, a 24-hour countdown timer, a multi-function alarm system, hourly time signal, a full auto-calendar to 2099 and 12/24-hour format. The blue-green EL backlight illuminates the entire face uniformly, with afterglow that keeps it lit for a moment after the button is released — paired with a flash alert that pulses the backlight along with the buzzer on alarms and timer alerts. Power comes from a CR2016 battery rated for approximately two years of operation.
