The Citizen Promaster Professional Diver 1000 BN7020-09E is Citizen’s most extreme purpose-built diver — the world’s first solar-powered watch rated and ISO-certified for saturation diving to 1,000 metres. Where the earlier automatic Promaster 1000m (the NH6930/NH6931, nicknamed the “Autozilla”) required a mechanical movement, the BN7020-09E replaces it with the Eco-Drive calibre J210, a light-powered quartz that draws energy from any light source and stores enough to run for approximately 540 days in total darkness, with a power reserve indicator near the 9 o’clock position so the charge level is always visible at a glance. At 52.5 mm wide, 22 mm thick and 180 grams on the polyurethane strap, the case is large by any standard, but the Super Titanium construction — Citizen’s proprietary titanium alloy treated with Duratect DLC, MRK and TIC surface-hardening coatings — keeps the weight substantially below what stainless steel of this volume would demand, and the hardened surfaces resist scratches, wear and corrosion in ways that untreated titanium cannot.
The case is built around perfect cylindrical symmetry, with no traditional lugs — the polyurethane strap enters the case body directly, creating a seamless profile designed to minimise snag points underwater. A screw-down crown sits at the 4 o’clock position, and a helium release valve handles the gas build-up that occurs during saturation diving at extreme depths. The one-way rotating elapsed-time bezel uses six oversized wing-shaped grip extensions instead of conventional knurling, allowing operation with thick dive gloves, and a coaxial locking ring can be rotated clockwise to lock the bezel in position or counterclockwise to unlock it — a critical safety feature for tracking decompression stops at depth. Under the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the black dial carries luminous hands and markers for visibility in dark water, a date display and the power reserve indicator. The polyurethane strap includes an extension for use over wet suits, and the Promaster Professional Diver 1000 ships in a hard protective case.
