The GBA-900UU-5A is the tan, “Urban Utility” colourway of G-SHOCK’s accessible fitness watch — the model that brought the G-SQUAD line’s step counter, Bluetooth smartphone link and run-tracking features down to an entry-level price point without losing the brand’s core toughness. Where higher-tier G-SQUAD models lean into solar power, GPS or heart-rate sensors, the GBA-900 stays focused on the basics most people actually use day to day: count steps, log distance and calories, time intervals, sync the time and the stats to a phone. The “UU” pair of colourways pulled the watch toward an earth-tone, streetwear-leaning look — the -3A in dark green and the -5A here in a muted tan that reads more outdoor-utility than gym.
The dial is the part of the watch that does the most work. Casio’s term for it is a combination dial — analog hands at the centre, a specially shaped LCD wrapped around them, and a textured face that picks up the same finish as the band. By eliminating overlapping parts between the analog and digital areas, the design fits a noticeably larger LCD into the same case footprint, which is what makes room for the exercise intensity graph, the step-count progress ring and the multi-line run data. Vapour deposition, hairline and mirror finishes are layered across the surface to keep it feeling like a watch rather than a sensor display, and the DISP button — the one used to switch between digital screens — sits on the 9 o’clock side specifically so it doesn’t dig into the back of the wrist during a run. The lugs are vented for airflow, and the soft urethane band has a long row of holes for fine adjustment.
On the tracking side, step counting runs on an accelerometer paired with Casio’s own algorithm, and distance accuracy can be calibrated against a smartphone GPS — once that’s done, the watch keeps measuring distance reasonably accurately on its own, untethered. The stopwatch has a 45-record memory holding lap and split times, total time, distance, average pace, calories and lap number for each record, and the timer module covers up to five individually settable interval timers that can repeat up to 20 times. Mobile Link via Bluetooth handles automatic time correction, easy setup from the Casio Watches app, and notification ring-throughs. The rest is standard G-SHOCK essentials: shock resistance, 20 bar (200-metre) water resistance, dual time, 1/100-second stopwatch, five daily alarms, hourly time signal, hand-shift feature, full auto-calendar to 2099, airplane mode, power-save function and a double auto-LED light. Power comes from a CR2025 battery rated for roughly two years.
