The GMD-S5600-7 is the all-white, women’s reinterpretation of G-SHOCK’s most iconic silhouette — the square. Where the original DW-5600 traces its lineage back to the 1983 DW-5000C and has anchored the brand’s identity ever since, the GMD-S5600 sits inside Casio’s S Series, the lineup of smaller G-SHOCKs designed around women’s wrists. The square template carries over unchanged, but the case shrinks to 40.5 mm and the proportions flatten out so it wears closer to the wrist. The -7 colourway is the cleanest of the bunch — an all-white resin case and band paired with a dark negative LCD, sitting alongside the black -1, the navy -2 and the grey -8 in the launch lineup as the option that leans hardest into a minimalist, monochrome look.
What pulls the design out of straight-up retro territory is the dial finish. Casio uses glass vapor deposition to give the face a subtle metallic sheen rather than the flat black of the classic DW-5600, and the same metal-on-white logic carries through to the side buttons and the band buckle, both finished in metal rather than the usual resin or plated plastic. With the simple mode indicators printed on the dial and a flat resin band that matches the case, the watch reads as a stripped-back, modern accessory first and a tool watch second — closer to streetwear than to the rugged outdoor styling of larger G-SHOCKs. At 45.7 × 40.5 × 11.9 mm and 41 grams it’s genuinely small-wrist friendly, with a 145–200 mm band range that fits comfortably across the S Series’ target wearer.
Underneath, the engineering is pure 5600. Shock resistance and 20 bar (200-metre) water resistance carry over from the full-size model, the mineral glass is the same proven choice, and the module covers all the essentials: a 1/100-second stopwatch with elapsed, split and 1st–2nd place times, a 24-hour countdown timer with auto-repeat, a multi-function alarm with flash alert, hourly time signal, full auto-calendar to 2099, 12/24-hour format and a Super Illuminator LED backlight with afterglow. Power comes from a CR1616 battery rated for roughly three years — shorter than the larger 5600 because of the smaller cell, but still set-and-forget for most owners.
