The Casio G-SHOCK GMW-BZ5000RC-1 is a special edition that brings new colour to the original square G-SHOCK silhouette. It takes the form of the 1983 DW-5000C — the watch that started the entire line — and reinterprets it in full metal, with a gradient rainbow ion-plated centre case at its heart. Because the IP finish is applied individually, the play of blues, purples, greens and warmer tones shifts slightly from piece to piece, so no two examples look exactly the same on the wrist.
The 49.3 × 43.6 mm stainless steel case is built from two layers joined at the top and bottom by four front screws, leaving the centre case fully visible from the side. That centre layer carries a two-stage IP treatment — a base coat of gold IP, then the gradient rainbow IP layered over it — to deliver depth and shifting brilliance. A thin border of rainbow vapor-deposited glass frames the display, and the front screws are accented in gold IP. Beneath the metal exterior, a resilient resin protector absorbs impact so the watch meets the full G-SHOCK shock-resistance standard, while a screw-lock case back — the same construction used on the very first G-SHOCK — seals the movement at 20 bar.
The face is a high-contrast MIP (memory-in-pixel) LCD with a wide viewing angle, offering four selectable TIME MODE layouts and two main display fonts — STANDARD for clarity or CLASSIC for the familiar 7-segment look. Power comes from Tough Solar, with Multi-Band 6 radio time calibration drawing from six transmitters worldwide and Bluetooth Smartphone Link through the CASIO WATCHES app. World time covers 38 time zones (55 cities plus UTC), supported by a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms and a full auto-calendar to the year 2099. A full-auto LED backlight lights the entire display evenly in the dark.
Built at Yamagata Casio in Japan — the same factory that produced the very first G-SHOCK over forty years ago — the GMW-BZ5000RC-1 carries that heritage forward with a stainless steel band on a one-touch three-fold clasp and arrives in special packaging echoing the rainbow motif. For collectors of the square line, it is one of those quietly considered releases that sits a step apart from the rest of the lineup.
