The GA-700-1B is the all-black edition of G-SHOCK’s GA-700 — an oversized analog-digital combination model built around one of the most recognisable visual cues in the G-SHOCK catalogue: the front button at the 6 o’clock position, which sits right at the centre of the face and turns the watch itself into part of the brand’s visual identity. Matte black from end to end, it’s the version of the GA-700 that leans fully into the brand’s core colour code rather than the louder red and neon-accented variants in the same family.
The case is aggressively dimensional. Casio uses its own resin-moulding technology to shape the hour and minute hands so they look as if they were carved out of metal, with deep facets that catch the light and sit above a 3D dial ring and raised indices. The effect is a layered, almost industrial face that reads instantly from across a room — form that serves function, because the oversized hands and bold indexes make the analog time easy to pick up at a glance even in poor light. At 57.5 × 53.4 × 18.4 mm with a 69-gram resin case and resin band, it’s a big watch on the wrist, in the GA-700 family’s characteristic extra-large footprint.
Operationally, the layout is built for speed. The front button at 6 o’clock drives the Super Illuminator LED light and the hand-shift feature that swings the analog hands out of the way to expose the digital display. Large side buttons handle mode switching and a dedicated start button fires the stopwatch directly from timekeeping mode without extra menu steps. The feature set is classic G-SHOCK: world time across 31 zones and 48 cities with daylight saving on/off and home-city swapping, a 1/100-second stopwatch measuring up to 23:59’59.99”, a 60-minute countdown timer, five daily alarms, an hourly time signal and a full auto-calendar. Behind it all sits shock-resistant construction, 200-metre (20 bar) water resistance and a CR2016 battery tuned for approximately five years of life — long enough that the watch works as a genuine wear-and-forget daily driver.
